The Emporia State football team suffered their 2nd loss of the season Saturday, they were out scored by Nebraska Kearney 31-21.
Nebraska Kearney built a 17-0 lead before Emporia State scored on a 3 yard Dalton Cowan touchdown run with 3 seconds to play in the first half.
The Hornets began the 2nd half scoring on a Carlos Grace 7 yard run and a Dalton Cowan 1 yard run to take a 21-17 lead in the 3rd quarter. Nebraska Kearney would score two more touchdowns to seal the win. Kearney had two players rush for over 100 yards. Quarterback TJ Davis rushed for 147 yards and 2 touchdowns. Running back Dayton Sealey rushed for 124 yards. Quarterback Dalton Cowan led Emporia State with 173 total yards and 2 touchdowns.
Linebacker Jace McDown led the Hornet defense with 15 tackles.
Emporia State Coach Garin Higgins said they played well but not well enough.
With the loss the Emporia State football is now 1-2 for the season. They play at Lincoln next Saturday.
