The University of Kansas has confirmed they have received notice of allegations from the NCAA.
The allegations include potentially devastating allegations toward the men’s basketball program, according to multiple sources.
Yahoo Sports reported Monday that Kansas has been charged with lack of institutional control, three Level I violations in men’s basketball and there is a head coach responsibility charge against coach Bill Self.
The Level I violations are tied, in part, to the recruitment of Billy Preston and Silvio De Sousa.
Yahoo Sports is reporting the allegations come from court testimony and documents tied to the federal basketball corruption cases over the past two years.
Level 1 violations carry some of the most severe punishment, including postseason bans, loss of scholarships, and suspensions for coaches.
There also are allegations against football, sources added, although those are Level II violations. The football allegations include charges of allowing an extra coach to work during practice under former head coach David Beaty.
University of Kansas officials said they will “fiercely dispute” many of the allegations which include claims that Self both participated in some violations and knew of others that he failed to report.
KU Athletic Director Jeff Long in a released statement said.
“We strongly disagree with the allegations regarding men’s basketball. We fully support Coach Self and his staff, and we will vigorously defend the allegations against him and our University.
In a written statement released by the university, Self accused the NCAA of overreacting, and falsely accusing him of violations.
