Nothing goes together better than a great cause and some great music.
Just ask audience members who attended the Emporia State University Jazz concert benefiting the annual United Way fundraising campaign Thursday evening at Albert Taylor Hall. Free-will donations were accepted in the place of a traditional entrance fee with all proceeds benefiting the United Way.
United Way Drive Chair and KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas says ESU’s willingness to be a part of the campaign demonstrates the generous nature of the local community.
ESU Director of Bands Gary Ziek spoke with KVOE News before the evening’s performances began and says Thursday may not be the only time the ESU music department teams up with the United Way this year.
The evening featured the ESU Faculty Jazz Combo, Student Jazz Combo and Jazz Ensemble 1 performing a variety of musical genres from rock to Latin and so much more.
Up next for the United Way Campaign is the annual Small Business Blitz which will be taking place Oct. 2. For more information about the United Way, its campaign and how to donate, visit unitedwayoftheflinthills.org
