Building With BBQ is being considered a success.
The first-year fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity brought six teams to the Lyon County Fairgrounds to try their hands in several categories, including chicken, ribs, pork, brisket, cook’s choice and people’s choice. 837 Barbecue, led by Habitat board member Ryan Janzen, was the top team in a tight battle with Troublesome Creek and Too Young to be Smoking. Janzen sees a lot of room for the event to grow and help Habitat down the road.
Organizer CJ Shown agrees. The fundraiser, which brought in over $15,000, comes as Habitat locally is looking to help more families.
Construction is underway at 714 Cottonwood, and Habitat is making plans for at least two other properties donated by the city with the possibility of a third property coming available soon.
