One of the big activities this upcoming weekend will be the 67th annual William Allen White Children’s Book Awards ceremony.
Hundreds of elementary and middle school students from across Kansas will come to Emporia for the activities, which begin Friday with a book signing at Red Rocks State Historic Site from 5-6:20 pm, followed by the annual read-in and sleepover at the Lee Beran Recreation Center. Activities then shift to the Emporia State Memorial Union on Saturday, with an activity fair starting at 8:30 am, a pep rally and parade around campus starting at 10:45 am and the annual awards ceremony beginning at 11:30 am.
This year’s winners were “Pax” by Sara Pennypacker as voted on by students in grades 3 through 5 and “Ghost” by Jason Reynolds for grades 6 through 8.
