Three rail crossings in east Emporia will be closed at least through the upcoming weekend.
City Clerk Kerry Sull says Burlington Northern Santa Fe has told city officials it is closing the Cottonwood, Exchange and Sylvan street crossings until further notice effective Friday. Crews are performing unspecified maintenance tasks and may well announce more closures in the coming days.
Sull says the trio of announced crossings should re-open next week, weather permitting.
