One man stands accused of aggravated assault and aggravated battery after an incident in Emporia last week.
Cody Allen Risner, 27, was charged after a reported stabbing incident Oct. 1. Court documents provided to KVOE News indicate Emporia Police officers were called to Newman Regional Health after a man identified as Tyler Ray Smith, 30, was taken to the hospital. A witness reported a suspect, later identified as Risner, held a knife to Smith’s throat and later stabbed Smith in the chest and ribs area following an argument in the 1200 block of Triplett Drive.
Risner was found shortly afterward and was taken into custody. He has denied the confrontation or stabbing Smith.
Risner’s first appearance was at 12:45 pm Monday at which time he was set for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 17 at 2:30 pm inside Lyon County District Court.
