The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve had a milestone visitor recently.
This past Thursday, Klara Stingsted of Vejle, Denmark, found out she was the preserve’s 500,000th visitor. Stingsted was touring the preserve with a group of Danish high school students staying in Emporia as part of a short-term visit organized by Emporia State University’s Office of International Education.
Stingsted received a copy of the park’s DVD and a book pf photos highlighting America’s national parks.
The preserve spans almost 11,000 acres near Strong City on Kansas Highway 177. It was created in November 1996.
