Fort Hays State kicked 4 field goals to defeat the Emporia State football team 19-3 Saturday.
Fort Hays Dante Brown kick field goals of 34, 31, 42 and 21 yards. The game lone touchdown came in the 2nd quarter a 23 yard touchdown pass from Chance Fuller to D.J. Hickman.
Emporia States lone score cam on their first drive of the 2nd half, a 24 yard field goal by Clark Schoonover. The missed a field goal attempt on their 2nd possession in the 2nd half.
Fort Hays forced Emporia State into eight 3 and outs in the game. Emporia State forced Fort Hays into five 3 and outs.
Quarterback Dalton Cowan was the leading rusher for Emporia State with 56 yards. He also completed 14 passes for 129 yards. He was intercepted once.
Fort Hays was led by running back Charles Tigner with 111 yards rushing. Quarterback Chance Fuller completed 19 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown.
Emporia State Coach Garin Higgins said with the exception of the start of the second half they continued to struggle offensively.
With the loss the Hornets are now 2-4 for the season. Fort Hays State is 4-2. Emporia State will host Central Missouri next Saturday for homecoming.
