The turnout at Saturday’s Gary Fuller Memorial Shootout was double the original event last year.
Over 40 people participated at the Fuller Shop northeast of Emporia, including 12 kids. The event serves several purposes, including use as a teaching tool for the benefits and importance of gun safety — according to Fuller’s daughter-in-law, Shelby.
The event honors Fuller’s memory after he was killed while trying to put out a tree fire in August 2014.
It also draws attention to Fuller’s support of 4-H. All proceeds benefit the purchase of trophy buckles for Lyon County Fair 4-H participants as well as scholarships for Lyon County 4-H members.
