A lack of criminal activity highlighted reports during the Flint Hills Technical College Board of Directors meeting Monday afternoon.
Vice President for Student Services Lisa Kirmer presented the campus security report which indicated no crimes have occurred on the campus in the past three years. Kirmer attributes this statistic to several factors, namely their student’s focus on succeeding in their education and chosen field.
The annual security report is a requirement under federal financial aid guidelines through the Department of Education. According to Kirmer the report keeps track of “just about any crime you can think of” as well as disciplinary referrals for drug or alcohol use by college students.
The FHTC report encompasses the college’s main campus, downtown campus and learning center. Even with no crimes to report Kirmer says the college is always striving to improve its security plans.
She says over the next few years the college will be phasing a new alert initiative known as Alertus Emergency Alert System.
Also during the meeting, President Dean Hollenbeck issued the monthly college report and board members approved the monthly financial reports as well as a request to increase the power plant technology fee $25 per semester due to federal training requirements.
