Emporia High School is launching its Parent Engagement Series on Wednesday with a hot topic.
“Vaping: What You Need to Know” will bring law enforcement and health professionals to the high school library to discuss whether vaping is safe, whether using e-cigarettes are a good way to stop smoking regular cigarettes and other topics. A question-and-answer session will follow a panel discussion.
Vaping has come under fire from health officials in Kansas and across the country over the past few months. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now lists 1,300 cases of lung injury linked to vaping nationwide. Nearly 30 deaths have been confirmed in 21 states, including two in Kansas this fall. Most lung injury patients have a history of using THC-based or THC-containing products.
The panel discussion starts at 7 pm Wednesday.
