Lyon County Commissioners approved a lease agreement Thursday with Evergy to provide additional infrastructure for the county/city public safety radio project.
The agreement originally came before commissioners back in September where commissioners gave direction for Hayden Tower, the company in charge of constructing buildings at tower sites, to draft a series of construction drawings which were added as an appendix to the agreement at the request of Evergy. Per the lease agreement, the county will be allowed to utilize Evergy owned property in the 1700 block of Road 200, currently occupied by the Lang substation, and the tower located on the property for a cost of $10,000 a year.
The lease agreement will allow the county to increase its radio coverage without needing to construct an additional tower. This, in turn, will lead to cost savings of around half a million dollars, a typical price for tower construction, according to Lyon County Emergency Management Director Jarrod Fell.
The lease will span over the next 10 years, at which time it will be renewed every five years over a 20 year period for a total of 30 years.
In other business, a public hearing was held regarding a Community Development Block Grant for Rural Water District No. 1. The grant, totaling $500,000, was used in recent improvements within the district including the construction and installation of a new water tower in Bushong.
The hearing was held to authorize commission chair Rollie Martin to sign and approve the grant release, certificate of completion and final inspection and wage compliance report. Additionally, commissioners approved a quote presented by Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods from John Thomas, Inc. for a remote flagger system for a total of $57,000.
The Lyon County Commission will reconvene for their weekly action session next Thursday at 8 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
