Emporia Public Library held its second to last speaker in the 2019 speaker series on Saturday with a portrayal of Andrew Carnegie.
Andrew Carnegie was a steel tycoon within the 19th century who used his wealth to benefit America in many including building over 2,509 libraries across the country with two of those libraries located in Emporia.
The portrayal, performed by Professor of History at Lindenwood University Jefferey Smith, covered the Andrew Carnegie’s philosophies, life, and accomplishments.
Smith says he got his start with a chautauqua from the Missouri Humanity Council for people to do portrayals of famous historical figures.
The next speaker on the library’s speaker series, Deborah Divine, will be giving a presentation titled “Sharing Patterns, Sharing Lives: Kansas Quilts” on Nov. 16.
