The Emporia State soccer team and Newman played to a 1-1 tie Sunday.
Aislin Hughes gave Emporia State the early lead with a goal 2:21 into the match.
Newman would tie the match with 5 minutes to play in regulation.
Emporia State Coach Bryan Sailer said scoring the early goal was good but may not have been the best thing to happen.
Emporia State out shot Newman 9-6 on goal.
The Lady Hornets are now 9-3-2 for the season and 4-1-2 in MIAA play.
They play at Missouri Southern Friday.
