Flu has arrived in Lyon County.
At the Flint Hills Community Health Center Board of Directors meeting Tuesday, it was announced a confirmed case was reported in the clinic last week. FHCHC community health nurse Cami McClellan says this is the typical time of year where positive cases begin to show up.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has not confirmed whether this is the first influenza A case in Kansas for the current flu season.
Flu shots have been in high demand the last few weeks, and Community Relations Director Brandon Stiner says FHCHC has a limited number of vaccines currently available with more shipments coming next week and again in mid-November.
Flu symptoms often develop rapidly and include fever over 100.4 degrees, aching muscles, chills, sweats, dry cough, fatigue or weakness and sore throat. Health officials urge people to get the flu shot as soon as possible. If you get sick, you’re advised to stay home until you get well.
McClellan will join KVOE’s morning show at 8:10 am on Friday to discuss influenza and further preventative measures in more depth.
