The Emporia/Lyon County comprehensive plan is beginning to turn heads beyond the local community.
During Thursday morning’s Lyon County Commission meeting, Floodplain Administrator Sam Seeley presented commissioners with the 2019 APA Pioneer Rural award for the work that went into the comprehensive plan. Seeley says the plan is something that has “never been done before” and is a testament to the unity of the local community.
Seeley adds the plan also amounted to significant cost savings to both the city and the county. He says the cost of constructing singular plans could have been around $250,000 each meaning a combined total of $500,000.
Seeley says the plan is something he, as well as the city and county, take great pride in and is looking forward to building upon its success in the future.
Also during Thursday’s meeting, commissioners approved Lyon County Human Relations Director Janice Huffman to attend the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) volunteer leadership business meeting in Washington DC. Nov. 13 through Nov. 16. Huffman says SHRM National will be covering the registration fees and two night’s accommodations for the conference, with Kansas SHRM covering the costs of accommodations for her third night.
Commissioners also held five executive sessions — three for non elected personnel matters and three for legal.
The Lyon County Commission will meet again next Thursday at 8 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
