The final three teams in the Community Impact Challenge (CIC) presented their unique projects in Emporia State University’s Blue Key Room on Wednesday, all competing for the $500 grant.
CIC invites ESU students to work in teams to create innovative and meaningful solutions to challenges the Emporia community faces. Of the three teams vying for the grant, Hygienic Hornets, a trio of students, came out victorious. In their proposal, over 200 hygiene kits including toothbrushes, shower gel, razors, feminine products, deodorant, etc. will be made and donated to USD 253 to be given to disadvantaged students who may lack these basic necessities.
Group member Marisleysis Velazquez says good old fashioned word-of-mouth will be used to gain support.
Roger Heineken, one of the judges who selected Hygienic Hornets, says they chose this proposal for good reason.
The project is expected to be completed by April of 2020. For more information on the Community Impact Challenge, click here.
