Emporia Fire says a reported vehicle fire on Interstate 35 turned out to be something entirely different.
The fire was reported around 10 am at mile marker 138 southbound, or about five miles east of Emporia’s eastern city limits. Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says fire crews, Lyon County deputies and Emporia Police officers eventually stopped the car at the Merchant Street exit.
Smoke was reported coming out of the car’s rear end. Conley says no fire was actually found. Instead, the smoke came from a currently-unspecified mechanical issue.
No injuries were reported.
