Emporia’s regular-season Farmers Market is now over.
The last market of the 2019 season took place Saturday morning with musicians, pumpkin painting and other activities. Market coordinator Jessica Hopkins says this was a good season.
Part of what made this season special was the addition of farmers’ markets in Americus and Olpe for the first time. Hopkins says the move served as a benefit for both shoppers and vendors, giving sellers more chances to sell their wares, and she’s not ruling out adding more Lyon County towns to the list as soon as next year.
With the regular season now over in Emporia and Olpe and one more market Monday in Americus, the Farmers Market has really no time to take a breath. Emporia’s winter market schedule begins Nov. 2 at Waters Hardware and will run the first and third Saturdays of every month through April. Also, the annual Soup-A-Palooza fundraiser is taking place Nov. 5 at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building. Besides soup, there will also be live music and a silent auction to raise funds for the market.
