Lyon County commissioners could finalize the city-county emergency radio project during their weekly action meeting Thursday.
Emergency Management Director Jarrod Fell will present two related items, one to approve the contract and lease through Motorola and one to approve a $660,000 down payment for the lease. If approved, this would wrap up over a year of formal discussions on how to replace the aging and increasingly failing system. Radios for city and county officials are expected to cost between $1.5 million and $1.8 million. Infrastructure and related equipment costs push the total past $4 million.
The other main point for county commissioners will be zoning. Lyon County Zoning Director Sam Seeley will present a zoning change request from Lex and Janice Price to change over 300 acres in the 1500 block of Road 200 from agriculture to heavy industrial. Meanwhile, Emporia Planning and Zoning Specialist Joe Foster will present an application for a minor plat at 1771 Road G, outside the Emporia city limits but within the county’s metropolitan area. A rezoning application from agricultural to light industrial is also planned for that address.
On top of those matters, Flint Hills Community Health Center Director Renee Hively will present the agency’s quarterly report.
The meeting starts at 8 am in the County Courthouse.
