Average to above-average. That’s the current perspective on Lyon County’s corn and bean harvest.
Lyon County Extension ag agent Brian Rees says both crops largely fared better than expected, especially given the better than three feet of rain we received earlier this year and the five rounds of flooding from April to July.
Beans, he says, are showing signs of a surprisingly good harvest.
Corn results are more spotty with anywhere from 70 to 150 bushels an acre, but Rees says the overall yields will still be around the county average.
Rees says things look good for the next several months as well. The subsoil moisture from this year bodes well for both the winter wheat crop now largely in the ground and the spring 2020 crops.
