The Kansas City Royals have announced the hiring of Mike Matheny as their 17th manager. He takes over for Ned Yost who retired at the end of this past season.
Matheny says he is excited about the future of the Royals.
Matheny spent the past year as a special assistant to general Manager Dayton Moore. He says he has been impressed with the Royals culture.
Matheny managed the St. Louis Cardinals for 6 and half seasons finishing with a record of 591-474. That included 1 World Series appearance.
