Emporia’s First Friday Art Walk celebrates its third anniversary Friday.
Twenty artists will be involved, displaying their wares at downtown Emporia businesses. On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Thursday, organizer Joel Smith said he was pleased with how the event has grown.
Organizer Kaila Mock says part of the event’s success comes from the community and business support. Part of it also comes from an increasing slate of artists willing to get involved.
The presenting venue will be Emporia State University’s Norman Eppink Gallery for the 2019 Art Faculty Exhibition. Also part of the Art Walk will be the Veterans Artist Exhibition reception and what’s called the EVAC Project, where veterans give living histories of their experiences and artist create a painting or other form of art as they listen to the stories being told.
As is the case every month, residents who get an Art Walk passport and get signatures from at least eight participating businesses are eligible for a special prize.
The Art Walk goes from 5-9 pm. For more information, go online to www.emporiafirstfriday.com or find the Art Walk on Facebook.
