Tis the season for giving and SOS is looking to give each of their clients a memorable holiday.
The annual SOS Holiday Drive is currently underway and local residents have the opportunity to get involved by adopting a family in need. The annual drive provides an abundance of gifts for families in need — between 50-100 individuals — each year according to SOS Community Relations Director Kari Wedel (WUH-dell).
Upon adopting a family, individuals will receive a wish list containing requests of gifts and necessities for those families. SOS Advocate Yvette Sosa says the holiday season can be a difficult time for many underprivileged families due to the often extravagant expectations which accompany this time of year.
Fellow advocate Jenn Horst says the holiday season does not just bring a burden for families who may be “down on their luck” but also the families who may be making great strides towards getting back into a stable position.
Both Sosa and Horst also wish to remind residents, the needs of their families do not end once the holidays come to a close. They say many of the items which you may donate this time of year can also be vital throughout the year such as gas and grocery cards and gift cards for hair cuts, cell phone minutes and even entertainment such as going to the movies or bowling.
To benefit from the drive, families must have been receiving consistent services from SOS for at least three months and must live within the six-county coverage area including Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris and Osage.
