The Emporia State men opened their season with a 82-73 loss to Southwestern Oklahoma State in overtime.
Coach Craig Doty said there were positives.
The Hornets trailed by 12 in the 2nd half and used a 27-12 run to take a 3 point lead with 18 seconds to play. A 3 point basket with 11 seconds to play tied the game. In the overtime Southwestern out scored the Hornets 15-6.
Jumah’Ri Turner scored a game high 24 points to lead Emporia State. Brenden Van Dyke finished with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. Justin Williams added 11 points.
Emporia State plays Arkansas Tech Saturday with tip-off set for 5pm. The game will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM.
