Republican Congressional candidate Troy Waymaster stopped through Emporia Saturday to cheer on the Emporia State Hornets and get to know his potential constituents.
Waymaster, a native of Russel Kansas, has worn many hats in his political career, the most recent serving as a member of the House of Representatives for the past seven years and serving as Chairman of the Appropriations Committee since 2017. Waymaster took time Saturday to speak with KVOE News and outline some of the major issues he will be focusing his attention on if elected to Congress.
Waymaster feels Congress needs to place more focus on legislation which benefits farmers and ag producers such as the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement which has been signed but not ratified as of yet.
Waymaster believes his seven-years of experience in the Kansas Legislature gives him a “leg up” on his competitors as he has a thorough understanding of the committee and legislative process. Waymaster is joined in the race for the 1st Congressional District seat by fellow Republicans Tracey Mann and Bill Clifford.
Kali Barnett is currently the lone Democrat vying for the position.
