A decision on the future of Plumb Place has been pushed back, thanks to the generosity of the local community.
Plumb Place Interim Director Mary Richardson announced during the board of directors meeting Tuesday evening, the organization had achieved its fundraising goal of $15,000 thanks to an anonymous donation received earlier Tuesday. According to Board Secretary and Treasurer Ian Boyd, this will allow the organization to continue operations through the remainder of the year.
The push was announced in late October, and there had been some concerns Plumb Place may have to start a dissolution effort at Tuesday night’s meeting if the $15,000 marker was not reached.
Plumb Place has been grappling with the loss of over $50,000 in funds from early 2014 through April 2017, and Emporia Police continue their investigation into how that money disappeared. Boyd and other members also said the organization’s current financial situation is one that was inherited by the current board when the makeup of the body completely changed early this year.
Boyd has told KVOE News funding from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development is already locked in for next year now that Plumb Place can operate through December. According to Boyd, the board has applied for a Community Block Grant from the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation. Boyd believes it may be two to three weeks before they receive word on the grant’s status.
Plumb Place has been serving women in the local community since 1921. For more information, contact Plumb Place at 342-1613 or go online to www.plumbplace.org.
