The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is using a new social media app to make it easier for people to track and report crime.
The Sheriff’s Office has announced it is now joined the Neighbors app by Ring. This lets deputies send requests for videos if anyone may have home surveillance video of a crime happening in a given neighborhood.
Residents do not need the Ring system to participate. Detective Sgt. Jacob Welsh says the Neighbors app works with other home surveillance camera systems. The app does not give law enforcement access to cameras or devices. It does not divulge addresses to law enforcement unless users approve. No user account information is displayed.
The Neighbors app is a free download from the Apple Store, Google Plan and the Amazon Store. For more information, call the Sheriff’s Office at 341-3205 or find the Sheriff’s Office on Facebook.
