Once again, Moonlight Madness took over Commercial Street in Emporia with local businesses participating and promoting excellent deals in the late hours of Thursday night.
More than twenty businesses took part in the annual late-night shopping extravaganza. Area shoppers express excitement for the deals, enjoy the comradery with friends, and appreciate the opportunity to shop in the evening hours.
Some shoppers had several clear destinations in mind while others preferred to browse to find great deals.
Emporia Main Street hosts the event each year and had some activities of their own to match the holiday theme, such as Reindeer Games and a meet and greet with Santa Claus. Along with the activities, patrons were able to participate in the Emporia Police Benefit Association Toy and Food Drive.
It was a busy night for Main Street. Besides the holiday shopping and the second night of holiday carriage rides, it also announced its first incubated business for the office space at 729 Commercial. Trox Gallery and Gifts, developed by Emporia First Friday co-founder Kaila Mock, will specialize in featuring emerging artists that want to showcase and sell their wares in a professional setting. The business is named after longtime Emporia High art teacher Jerry Troxell. Trox Gallery and Gifts will launch in February and will eventually occupy its own independent storefront.
