Hesston defeated the Emporia High girls and boys basketball teams on the final night of the Swather Preseason Classic Friday night.
Hesston won the girls game 40-34. A 13-0 run to start the 3rd quarter was the difference in the game. It gave Hesston a lead they would not give up.
Emporia High Coach Carolyn Dorsey says they need to find a way to generate offense.
Gracie Gilpin was the leading scorer for Emporia High with 12 points. With the loss the Emporia High girls are now 2-2 for the season.
Hesston won the boys game 63-55. The Swathers took the lead for good in the 2nd quarter. Emporia High cut the lead to 3 points in the 4th quarter but would get no closer.
Charles Snyder scored 30 points to lead the Spartans. Skyler Douglas added 11 points. The Spartans fall to 3-1 for the season.
Both the Emporia High girls and boys open Centennial League play Tuesday night at Washburn Rural.
