No injuries were reported after fire developed at a southern Lyon County address Sunday.
Olpe, Hartford-Neosho Rapids and Emporia fire crews were called to 1762 Road 90 shortly before noon, although Emporia Fire was canceled before reaching the scene. Lyon County Deputy Jeff Rodriguez says the currently-unnamed occupant was apparently burning trash in a wood stove. He stepped away and then noticed fire when he returned.
Olpe Fire Chief Wade Schmidt says a problem with the stove caused the basement to fill with smoke and embers. The embers caused other items to smolder and eventually catch fire.
Minimal damage was reported, mainly to the concrete basement walls, according to Rodriguez.
