Moderate to light snowfall seems to have reached its end for the time being in the KVOE listening area.
Snow accumulation has been consistent throughout the area over the past 24-hours including over 5 inches at the KVOE studios. Although snowfall has been uninterrupted throughout the day, driving conditions have improved on major city streets and heavy traveled residential streets with some slick areas still being reported on most side streets.
Due to this, motorists are reminded to drive slowly and cautiously when out on the roadways. This includes county roads where crews have been at work since 3 am Monday to clear snow and ice from the pathways. To this end, Assistant Lyon County Engineer Jim Brull wishes to remind residents to give snowplow drivers the space they need to do their jobs.
Though conditions are improving, there is a possibility of refreezing in the evening and overnight hours and drivers need to remain cautious and vigilant if out on the roadways for any reason. Winter weather advisories continue for Lyon and most surrounding counties until 6 pm Monday evening.
The only exceptions are Morris and Wabaunsee counties as advisories for the two were canceled earlier Monday afternoon.
Some schedule adjustments have already been announced for Tuesday:
*USD 456 Marais des Cygnes Valley: school and all activities canceled Tuesday, Dec. 17
