Morris and Wabaunsee counties have seen their winter weather advisory come to an end sooner than expected.
The advisory, originally set to expire at 6 pm Monday, has been officially canceled. Advisories still remain in effect until 6 pm Monday for Lyon and most surrounding counties.
Road conditions on Sunday were partly to mostly covered for Emporia’s major streets. Those are now seasonal to partly covered. Side streets are still slick and will likely stay that way until temperatures go above freezing.
Outside the Emporia city limits, most area highways range from seasonal driving conditions to completely snow-covered. TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers is concerned about the travel conditions the rest of the day. He’s also concerned about refreezing in some areas.
Numerous schedule adjustments remain in effect through Monday. Click here for the most current list. Most area school districts announced Monday closures by Sunday evening. It is unclear whether any districts will announce Tuesday closures at this time.

5:30 am Monday: While area kids enjoy first snow day of season, drivers can expect more travel hassles with light snow expected
It’s a snow day for most area children. It’s another day of potential travel headaches for adults.
Snow totals ranging from 2-5 inches across the KVOE listening area Sunday, combined with the prospect of another 1-2 inches Monday, prompted most area school districts to cancel classes for the day and triggered a range of other schedule adjustments. Click here for the full list.
The incoming snow will not help road crews across the area as they try to keep roads clear. Here’s TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers:
In Emporia, major arterials and residential collector streets were not heavily traveled so they are partly to mostly covered. Residential streets are slick, as are bridges, overpasses and untreated sidewalks and parking lots.
Outside the Emporia city limits, most area highways range from seasonal driving conditions to completely snow-covered. Crews across the area are poised to head out early Monday if the forecast develops as predicted.
