Emporia Police have arrested five people, including two juveniles, as their investigation into recent shots fired incidents continues.
Capt. Dave DeVries says detectives and narcotics officers targeted several homes for interviews, car stops and surveillance activity on Monday. Shortly after normal business hours, officers gained enough information to conduct a search warrant at 1209 Sundown Circle. That warrant search also involved Emporia’s Special Response Team.
Before the SRT arrival, surveillance saw three vehicles leave in what authorities say was a caravan. Those vehicles were stopped in the 300 block of Carter as the SRT began the warrant search. Three firearms were found in the vehicles, while over 1.5 pounds of marijuana were found on Sundown Circle.
The arrests and seizures followed the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun over the past week.
Six people were detained and five were arrested:
*Christopher Diaz, age 21 of Emporia, on suspicion of marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession
*Elijah Rowley, age 21 of Emporia, on suspicion of possessing marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of paraphernalia
*Jesse Baker, age 18 of Emporia, on suspicion of marijuana and paraphernalia possession
*Two 17-year-old juvenile males, both on suspicion of burglary, two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling and criminal use of a weapon.
The arrests follow confirmed incidents of shots fired into homes at 1101 Congress and 531 East Logan on Dec. 6 and 901 Mary on Dec. 8. DeVries says the investigation is ongoing at this time.
