The newest event in the Salvation Army of Emporia’s Red Kettle Campaign took place Wednesday throughout Emporia.
Three local real estate agencies took to Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply and Wal-Mart to man kettles for the inaugural Real Estate Wednesday bell-ringing competition. The friendly competitive event is structured the same as the annual Badges United event which took place last Saturday where each agency tries to raise the most money for the campaign and some bragging rights.
Ek Real Estate, Coldwell Banker and Farm and Home were the three participating agencies. Tasha Sailer of Ek Real Estate says they are proud to benefit an agency that puts 100 percent of their donations back into the local community.
Jamie Sauder of Coldwell Banker says putting the community first has always been a major focus for their agency.
Jerry Olmsted of Farm and Home says this is a great benefit for their agency as it allows them to have more personal interaction with the residents they serve.
Totals from Real Estate Wednesday will be announced at a later time. The Red Kettle Campaign fundraising efforts will continue through Christmas Eve with the final doubler day of the year taking place this Friday where an anonymous donor will match any and all donations up to $1,000.
At last word, the campaign was just under 50 percent towards its $63,000 goal according to Salvation Army Cpt. Deb Thompson. For more information, call the Salvation Army at 342-3093.
