The Emporia High girls and boys basketball teams closed out their Pre-Christmas Schedule with wins over Topeka West Friday night.
The Emporia High girls took control early leading 11-2 at the end of the 1st quarter and never gave up the lead. They would lead 21-9 at the half and 30-17 going to the 4th quarter and won the game 38-22. Coach Carolyn Dorsey was happy to get the win.
With the win the Lady Spartans are now 3-3 for the season and 2-1 in Centennial League play.
The Emporia High boys needed double overtime to win their showdown with Topeka West 64-57. Coach Beau Welch said it was a good win.
The game was tied at 13 after the first quarter. The Spartans led 26-25 at halftime. West led 39-38 going to the 4th quarter. The game was tied at the end of regulation at 53. It was tied at 57 after the 1st overtime. Emporia High shutout West in the 2nd overtime for the win.
Charles Snyder led the offense with 21 points.
Hunter Heins added 16 points and Beau Baumgardner finished with 10 points.
The Spartans are now 4-2 for the season and 2-1 in Centennial league play.
Both teams are off until January 7th when they host Topeka High.
