One man suffered traumatic injuries after being hit by a train in downtown Emporia early Sunday.
The incident happened at the Merchant Street crossing just after midnight. Emporia Fire Capt. Tony Fuller tells KVOE News a 50-year-old man had injuries to both legs. A rescue crew took him to Newman Regional Health, but the man was almost immediately transferred by ambulance to Stormont Vail Health in Topeka. According to Capt. Fuller, the currently unnamed man is being treated in the Level 1 Trauma Center, with no further update on his status.
Emporia Police are investigating how the incident developed. Train traffic was halted for over an hour afterward.
