US Cellular customers in Americus and Olpe will be noticing advanced broadband and cell coverage thanks to the approval of two applications by the Lyon County Commission Thursday.
Commissioners approved two conditional use permits from US Cellular for the erection of two separate communications towers. The first, a 150 ft tower, will be located in the 2300 Block of Road G near Americus while the second will be located in the 700 Block of Road M near Olpe.
Lyon County Zoning and Floodplain Manager Sam Seeley says the towers are not connected to the government’s Rural Broadband Initiative, however, he says it goes hand in hand with it all the same.

At this time, only US Cellular customers will notice any rise in service, however, Seeley says there is a possibility for co-location with other service providers on the towers.
Commissioners also held four executive sessions during their meeting. The Lyon County Commission will hold its weekly action session next Thursday at 8 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
