Heavy to moderate rainfall saturated the KVOE listening area throughout the day Saturday.
Current rain fall totals include:
*KVOE Studios: 2.4 inches
*East Emporia: 1.5 inches
The high volume of rainfall did lead to the National Weather Service issuing an urban and small stream flood advisory for Emporia and most of Lyon County, however, there were no reports of flooding as a result of the rainfall. The heavy rainfall comes as Lyon County is poised to close out 2019 dryer than in year’s past. Abnormally dry conditions cover southwest Lyon County just west of Olpe, according to the latest information from the US Drought Monitor. Most of Chase County is abnormally dry, as are far northwest Greenwood County and western Morris County.
The drought monitor will not have an update until Jan. 2.

4 pm Saturday:Urban and small stream flood advisory issued for Emporia, most of Lyon County
Heavy rain has triggered short-term flood advisories for parts of the KVOE listening area.
The National Weather Service’s Topeka office has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory:
*Lyon County until 5:30 pm. Involves Emporia, Admire, Allen, Americus and Bushong.
The advisories reflect a risk of runoff-based flooding of creeks, streams, highways, streets and underpasses. No such issues have been reported in Lyon County.
Significant rain has fallen in two waves, leading to impressive totals in Emporia:
*KVOE studios: 2.2 inches
*East Emporia: 1.5 inches
The risk for severe weather announced early Saturday officially remains in effect but is waning as storms push east through the area. Isolated damaging wind events are still possible.
