While for many the holiday season is full of joy, family and celebration, it can be a time of ups and downs for many others.
According to Beacon For Hope Suicide Prevention Director Melissa Kurtenbach, the holiday season can often bring serious bouts of depression for hundreds of individuals. This is especially true for individuals currently dealing with the loss of a loved one or celebrating their first holiday season without specific loved ones.
Kurtenbach says the holiday season can often stir up those feelings of loss and depression at a moment’s notice.
Kurtenbach also says this season they have had a large number of individuals reach out to them seeking guidance for loved ones currently battling depression. Rather than being an alarming trend, Kurtenbach says this is very heartening as it shows families are becoming more open with discussing mental health.
Kurtenbach tells KVOE News these individuals are vital to anyone currently battling depression as having a support system in place can make a significant difference.
