In reviewing her first year in office, Governor Laura Kelly said she was pleased with the direction of the state with a lot left to accomplish.
Kelly says she has been focused on “rebuilding Kansas” in several ways.
Kelly touted the 2019 budget that she says reduced debt and invested in education, transportation, health care and foster care.
Republicans were not pleased by Kelly’s vetoes of two separate tax cut bills, saying those served as a tax increase for certain residents and businesses.
Kelly says her top priority this year is expanding KanCare to give around 150,000 state residents access to health care they currently do not have. Other focal points will involve additional facets of economic development, transportation and corrections policies.
