Cyclists and runners alike kicked off the new year in an active way New Year’s Day.
Gravel City Adventure and Supply hosted a New Year’s Run and Ride which launched around noon from two separate locations. Runners launched from the Emporia State Campus Woods trailhead while riders launched from the parking lot behind Gravel City.
Rider Shawn O’Mara says this has been a yearly tradition for the cycling community in Emporia for a number of years.
The cycling portion of the day consisted of two different rides, a gravel trail and an “urban assault” ride. Once the riders and runners concluded their respective activities, everyone reconvened at Gravel City to share refreshments and look ahead to what’s to come in 2020.
