A small vehicle fire developed in downtown Emporia on Thursday.
Emporia Fire and Emporia Police responded to the call in the 100 block of Mechanic shortly after 3 pm., finding the fire in a minivan’s engine compartment. Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says fire crews initially did not have smoke or fire when they arrived, but a small fire developed as they got into position. Firefighters got the blaze out with a pressurized water can.
No injuries were reported. The fire was apparently due to a mechanical malfunction, but the details are pending. Traffic in the 10 block of Mechanic was blocked for about 45 minutes afterward.
