The Dave Hollond Memorial Youth Hunt is getting underway south of Emporia.
Once again, youths are gathering at Dry Creek Sporting Clays for preliminary activities, including firearm safety training. On KVOE’s What’s In Outdoors on Friday, show host Phil Taunton said this event can serve as a way to develop a love of the outdoors.
Seven youths will be paired with guides as they try to collect a deer either Saturday or Sunday. Participants will be up as early as 5 am for breakfast before heading out on their hunts Sunday morning.
The event is named for Dave Hollond, the longtime coordinator of what was originally called the Clint Bowyer Youth Deer Management Hunt before Hollond’s sudden passing five years ago.
