The Emporia State basketball teams left Washburns Lee Arena with a win and loss Saturday.
The Emporia State womens basketball team out scored Washburn 69-57 Saturday improving to 10-2 for the season and 3-0 in MIAA play. The Lady Hornets used a 9-0 run to end the first quarter and never trailed the rest of the night. Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn said they way they closed out the first quarter was a big difference.
The Lady Hornets biggest lead was by 22 points in the 3rd quarter. Washburn tried to rally cutting the deficit to 10 but could get no closer.
Mollie Mounsey led Emporia State with a game high 19 points. Tre’Zure Jobe added 16 points.
Washburn won the mens game 80-78. The Ichabods took advantage of a 4 minute plus scoreless streak for Emporia State in the 2nd half and used a 16-1 run to erase a 15 point deficit.
Emporia State Coach Craig Doty said they did get the job done defensively.
Emporia State still had a chance, missing a shot from half court as time ran out. Emporia State led for over 29 minutes of the contest. Jumah’Ri Turner led Emporia State with 22 points. Justin Williams added 17 points and Dallas Bailey finished with 10 points. The Emporia State men are now 8-4 for the season and 2-1 in the MIAA.
Both the Emporia State women and men host Northwest Missouri State Thursday.
