The National Weather Service is cautioning area residents not to conduct controlled burns Tuesday or Wednesday.
Osage County has issued a countywide burn ban effective until 8 am Wednesday. The ban will be revisited Wednesday morning and may be extended. Additionally, a burn ban is also in place for Chase County through midnight Wednesday.
Greenwood County, meanwhile, is in a fire weather watch Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Very high fire danger is expected for Lyon and most surrounding counties Tuesday with low humidity levels, high temperatures in the mid-50s and wind gusts as high as 25 mph.
Wednesday’s temperatures will return to the mid-50s. Coupled with wind gusts as high as 35 mph before sunset and 40 mph after sunset, conditions will push the fire danger to the very high or extreme categories for Lyon and surrounding counties.
Rain chances and increased humidity Thursday will reduce the fire risk, even though temperatures will approach 60 degrees and winds will be above 30 mph for much of the day.
