Traffic remains blocked in all directions, and likely will through Friday at the earliest on Kansas Highway 99 at the intersection of Roads 240 and L following a semi wreck late Thursday morning.
A semi crash occurred in the intersection shortly before 10:30 am after a semi carrying windmill equipment failed to negotiate a turn and went into the ditch. According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department, a crane is needed to remove the equipment, believed to be a base for a wind turbine, from the scene.
Due to the sheer size of the equipment and crane, the area will be barricaded until further notice according to Lyon County Sheriff’s Sergeant Danny Broyles. During the crash, the semi cab rolled onto its top, however, the driver, identified as 46-year-old Jeffrey Lombardo of Palm City, FL, was able to escape with only minor scratches and cuts and did not require a trip to the hospital.
