“Reflections of Hope” is the theme for Emporia’s Martin Luther King, Junior Celebration on Monday.
The Greater Emporia MLK Planning Committee and Emporia State Diversity Student Programs have partnered on activities Monday afternoon and evening. On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Friday, Greater Emporia MLK Planning Committee spokesman Al Slappy said King’s life and legacy should be considered — and put into action — every day, not just around the official observance.
Activities will start at the Emporia State campus Monday afternoon, with youth activities in the Memorial Union Webb Hall from 2:30 to 4 pm. The annual campus and community march will start at Emporia State’s White Library at 5 pm and end at Emporia Presbyterian Church, 802 Commercial. The celebration service follows at the church at 6 pm.
