A magnitude 4.4 earthquake developed west of Hutchinson shortly after 1 pm Sunday with effects felt in and around Emporia.
According to the US Geological Survey the quake developed 2.8 miles below the surface 2 miles southwest of Hutchinson around 1:12 pm. Light to moderate shaking was reported near the epicenter with weak to little shaking felt roughly 109 miles away in Emporia.
According to Hutchnews.com, the quakes epicenter was in the “same general area that has experienced the majority of the county’s previous earthquakes.” Word on damages or possible injuries is pending.
